GPS Trackers for Dementia & Wandering
More freedom for your loved one. More peace of mind for you.
GPS watches and pendants can help caregivers stay connected, check a loved one’s reported location, and respond more quickly when wandering is a concern.
Stay connected without relying on a smartphone
Dementia, Alzheimer’s, memory loss, and wandering concerns can make everyday independence more complicated. A wearable GPS device gives families another way to check location, make voice contact, and respond when something does not feel right.
A GPS tracker does not prevent wandering and cannot replace supervision, professional care, or an emergency plan. It can, however, provide a valuable additional layer of visibility and communication for families and caregivers.
Highly accurate outdoor GPS
When the device reports a GPS position outdoors with a clear view of the sky, location is usually highly accurate and often within a few metres.
Calling and auto-answer
Approved caregivers can call the device, and auto-answer can make check-ins easier when the wearer may not reliably answer.
SOS and fall alerts
The wearer has a simple way to call for help, while fall alerts add another notification tool for caregivers.
Family and caregiver access
Multiple trusted family members and caregivers can connect through the Lil Tracker GPS app and help stay informed.
Top options for dementia and wandering support
Lil Tracker offers additional senior watches and pendants. To keep the decision simple, these are the two options we recommend considering first.
4G Senior GPS Tracker Watch Pro
A wrist-worn safety watch that combines location tracking, SOS calling, auto-answer, fall alerts, reminders, and everyday communication.
- GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular positioning
- SOS emergency calling and two-way calls
- Auto-answer for easier caregiver check-ins
- Fall alerts, medication reminders, and inactivity reminders
- Magnetic charging and IP67 everyday water protection
4G GPS Emergency Pendant with Screen
A compact alternative for someone who does not like wearing a watch or is more comfortable wearing or carrying a pendant-style device.
- Real-time location tracking through the caregiver app
- Large SOS control for quick emergency calling
- Two-way communication and auto-answer
- Automatic fall detection with adjustable sensitivity
- Low-battery alerts and location history
What if your loved one removes the watch?
The optional 20 mm lockable watch band fits the Senior Watch Pro and can make casual removal more difficult. A caregiver can unlock the buckle with one of the included keys.
This can be helpful when a senior repeatedly removes, misplaces, or leaves behind a standard watch.
Strong outdoor accuracy with backup positioning indoors
Location performance depends on where the device is being used and which positioning method is available.
Outdoors
With a clear view of the sky and a strong GPS signal, the reported position is usually highly accurate and often within a few metres.
Indoors or obstructed areas
Inside buildings, near tall structures, or under heavy cover, the device may rely on Wi-Fi or cellular positioning. These methods can identify the general area but may be less precise than outdoor GPS.
Caregiver app
Family members, relatives, and caregivers use the Lil Tracker GPS app on their own phones to check the device’s reported location and stay connected.
Features that help families check in and respond
Both recommended devices provide practical safety and communication tools without requiring the wearer to carry a smartphone.
SOS calling
A dedicated SOS control gives the wearer a simple way to call preset contacts when they need help.
Auto-answer
Approved caregivers can call and begin speaking without requiring the wearer to navigate menus or press an answer button.
Fall alerts
Fall detection can provide an additional alert, but no automated fall system should replace emergency care, supervision, or professional monitoring.
Two-way communication
Caregivers can call the device, and the wearer can communicate without needing to carry, unlock, or operate a full smartphone.
Each device needs its own compatible SIM plan
Location updates and app communication require mobile data. Standard calls, SOS calls, and auto-answer require voice service, while SMS can support setup and troubleshooting.
- Standalone SIM plan with its own phone number
- Mobile data for tracking and app communication
- Voice service for calls, SOS, and auto-answer
- SMS for setup and troubleshooting support
GPS trackers for dementia and wandering FAQ
Common questions from families and caregivers choosing between a senior GPS watch and a GPS pendant.
How accurate is the location tracking?
Outdoors, when the device has a clear view of the sky and is reporting a GPS position, location is usually highly accurate and often within a few metres.
Indoors, near tall buildings, or where satellite signals are obstructed, the device may use Wi-Fi or cellular positioning instead. These methods can still help identify the general area but may be less precise than outdoor GPS.
Which device should I choose?
Choose the Senior Watch Pro when your loved one is comfortable wearing a watch and is likely to keep it on the wrist. It adds medication and inactivity reminders, magnetic charging, and the option of a lockable band.
Choose the GPS Emergency Pendant with Screen when a pendant-style device is more familiar, comfortable, or likely to stay with the wearer.
Can I call the device if my loved one cannot answer?
Yes. Both recommended devices support auto-answer for approved caregivers, allowing a call to connect without the wearer needing to press an answer button. An active compatible SIM plan with voice service is required.
Can multiple family members and caregivers use the app?
Yes. Multiple trusted family members and caregivers can connect through the Lil Tracker GPS app. The first registered user acts as the administrator and can approve additional users.
Will the tracker prevent wandering?
No GPS device can prevent wandering by itself. A tracker can help caregivers check location, communicate, and respond more quickly, but it should be used together with supervision, professional guidance, family routines, caregiver protocols, and an emergency plan.
Does the device support geofencing?
Yes. You can create a safety zone in the Lil Tracker GPS app and receive an alert when the device reports that it has moved outside the area.
Geofencing works best for larger zones and general area awareness. It is not intended as an instant doorway-level alert or a perfectly exact boundary.
What if my loved one removes the watch?
A standard watch can be removed. The optional 20 mm Lil Tracker lockable band can make casual removal more difficult while allowing a caregiver to unlock it with the included key.
The band is not a restraint and cannot guarantee that the watch will remain in place in every situation. Comfort, fit, skin checks, and supervision remain important.
Do the devices need a SIM card?
Yes. Each device needs its own compatible standalone SIM plan. Mobile data is required for location tracking and app communication, voice service is required for calls and SOS, and SMS is helpful for setup and troubleshooting.
Are fall alerts guaranteed to detect every fall?
No. Automated fall detection can provide a useful additional alert, but no wearable system can identify every fall or avoid every false alert. It should not replace emergency medical care, personal supervision, or professional monitoring.
Two top options. A simpler starting point.
Start with the Senior Watch Pro for a wrist-worn solution or the GPS Emergency Pendant with Screen when a pendant is more practical. Additional senior watches and pendants are also available.
